Once upon a time, I collected large pieces of metal scrap. I scoured the local scrap yard for pieces with interesting patterns, textures and patinas. I arranged them in my apartment like precious sculptures or paintings. They inspired me to draw, paint, sculpt and even take a printmaking class exploring and pursuing the patterns of the grid.
The Mesh Series pieces are all cast out of one small piece of rusted metal mesh I found in the road several years ago while running one day. To my eye, it is a perfect little piece of art in and of itself. Cast out of gold or silver, the texture created by the decay of the original material, creates a wonderful finish in the raw casting. I love the combination of the raw casting with high polish elements and the occasional sparkle of a small diamond or luster of a pearl to bring the piece to a new life in the form of a contemporary wearable jewelry piece.
